On June 12, 2013, Michael Sundine, M.D., along with Paul Yost, M.D., and Vijay Dhar, M.D. will be presenting the topic of Neonatal Mandibular Distraction Osteogenesis for Grand Rounds at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County. These specialists, who lead the mandibular distraction team in the NICU, have pushed forward an initiative to lengthen small mandibles in neonates with Pierre Robin sequence to try to prevent the need for a tracheostomy procedure. They will present some of the basic science principles of mandibular distraction, the technique for the procedure, outcomes for the patients with the procedure, and lessons learned from the process.
