Secondary Facelift
Conveniently located to serve Newport Beach & all areas of Orange County
If signs of aging are beginning to reappear after a primary facelift procedure, Dr. Michael Sundine can perform secondary facelift surgery to restore the results you achieved with your primary facelift.
Primary facelift surgery delivers great aesthetic benefits; however, it will not halt the aging process. After a few years, your face will begin to show additional lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity.
Dr. Sundine routinely performs secondary facelift surgery for his Newport Beach and Orange County facial-rejuvenation patients. His decades of experience and fine-tuned aesthetic judgment allow him to deliver outstanding surgical outcomes. Dr. Sundine has published book chapters and peer-reviewed articles regarding secondary facelifts. Because he is known as one of the top Facelift Newport Beach Surgeons, you’ll be in great hands.
Is a Secondary Facelift Surgery Safe?
Secondary facelift surgery is safe, and the risks of the surgery are no greater than with the initial procedure. The safety of this procedure is dependent on your general health and aesthetic goals.
Many patients who previously have had a facelift procedure develop new medical issues in the interim before the secondary procedure. These issues (such as hypertension) will need to be controlled prior to performing a secondary facelift.
The type of facelift you received previously will have some impact on the technical aspects of the procedure but does not impact the safety of the procedure. Dr. Sundine will carefully and comprehensively examine your face and explain whether a secondary facelift is right for you, as well as what type of results can be expected.
The Secondary Facelift Procedure in Newport Beach
Secondary facelift surgery is usually not significantly different from the initial facelift procedure, but it depends on what type of facelift you underwent the first time. When performing facelift as a secondary procedure, Dr. Sundine uses a high-SMAS-lift technique in the vast majority of cases.
The SMAS procedure focuses on lifting the deep layers of the face over the top of the facial muscles to reposition the facial fat over the contours of face to restore the youthful softness and fullness of the face. The skin is also addressed, but generally, less skin is removed in a secondary procedure compared to the primary facelift.
During the procedure, Dr. Sundine creates incisions along the scars from the initial surgery, thereby preventing formation of new scarring. The incision lines may have to be moved if there have been some distortions of the hairline or widened scars as a result of the primary procedure. In general, patients are able to recuperate and return to daily activities essentially the same as after the primary operation.
Secondary facelift surgery with Dr. Sundine is performed under general anesthesia at an accredited outpatient surgical center with board certified anesthesiologists.
Recovering from Secondary Facelift Surgery
As you wake up from secondary facelift surgery, your face will feel tight and sore; as you know from your previous procedure, this is all temporary. You will be provided with medications and specific aftercare instructions that will help with the healing process.
You will go to an aftercare facility on the day of the surgery. You will then return home the next day, where you will continue to recover for the next 7 to 10 days before returning to work and other daily activities. Dr. Sundine will see you on a regular basis to ensure you are healing properly.
The results obtained with a secondary facelift will allow you to maintain your youthful appearance and feel good about your facial beauty.
