What is Revision Rhinoplasty?

Are you unhappy with the results of your cosmetic nose surgery? This happens to about 15 percent of all nose surgery patients. Nose surgery can deliver great results, but in some cases, they are not achieved through the initial procedure. Many patients who undergo nose reshaping surgery decide to undergo a second procedure to further enhance the shape, size, or width of the nose. Revision rhinoplasty can also be performed to help patients who are experiencing difficulty breathing as a result of the initial procedure.

What’s The First Step?

If you are looking into a Revision Rhinoplasty, your first step is to schedule an appointment with Michael J. Sundine, M.D. Your initial consultation will center around your goals of nasal surgery, an examination of your nose in the context of an overall head and neck examination, and a discussion of how best to meet your vision.

Dr. Sundine will discuss a variety of techniques for rhinoplasty with you, and together, you will choose a method that will produce the best results. Pre and post-operative examples of other similar revisional rhinoplasties can be reviewed to give you a better understanding of what to expect. The details of the procedure and post-op care are explained, and any questions you may have are answered. If a plan is confirmed to move forward with surgery, you meet with our Patient Coordinator to schedule a surgery date.

Before your surgery, you may have one more pre-operative visit. This visit typically involves a pre-operative history and physical at our office. This visit is performed to assess any medical issues you may have and to ensure that your surgery is conducted most safely. This visit is also an opportunity for you to ask additional questions that may have arisen after your initial consultation.

What to Expect on the Day of Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty surgery is always performed using the open rhinoplasty approach. To perform this procedure, Dr. Sundine makes small incisions along the vertical strip of skin separating the nostrils. The skin and soft tissues are then folded back to expose the underlying cartilage and bone for easier reshaping.

Revision rhinoplasty surgery is performed under general anesthesia at a local hospital or accredited outpatient surgical facility. You will be able to go home on the same day.

Recovery

Your recovery will greatly depend on the degree of correction that was performed. However, in most cases, recovering from this procedure is not much different than recovering from the previous surgery. Your nose will be bandaged up and a splint will be placed for a few days. You will be given medicine and painkillers to keep you comfortable. Swelling and bruising are common but subside gradually. The results may not be visible for a few months, but you will be able to return to work and other daily activities within a couple of weeks. Dr. Sundine will monitor your progress for as long as necessary.

What I really like about Dr. Sundine is his vast experience and training. I also like the fact he did not try to sell me other procedures. He is also very down to earth and easy to talk to. I am very satisfied with the results and I highly recommend him.

After much research and multiple visits to other surgeons, I knew right away that Dr. Sundine was the perfect choice for me. I felt completely confident in his ability from the first visit to the last. I have been singing his praises to all of my friends and will recommend him to anyone searching for a plastic surgeon. Thanks, Dr. Sundine

Dr. Sundine is an excellent plastic surgeon! I have been using his services for almost 5 years. If you want to look years younger and fully refreshed I highly recommend that you use his services. Patients walk out looking naturally gorgeous, not overdone like some of the women in Orange County!

Dr. Sundine is the best plastic surgeon. Dr. Sundine’s excellent skills and knowledge has made my surgery turn out so well. But more importantly, it made me feel better about myself. Again, thank you Dr. Sundine for all you have done for me. You are the best surgeon!

I gave Dr. Sundine the highest possible review in each category because he truly deserved the highest reviews on every level. I am a very well recognized lawyer on the West Coast. My firm has spent millions of dollars on television advertising in which I appear. I could not afford to have a bad facelift or even for people to notice I had a facelift at all. I interviewed many physicians including some of the “celebrity” physicians. Ultimately, I chose Dr. Sundine.
