What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectables that are administered to specific areas of the face under topical anesthesia. Dr. Sundine performs the procedure at his office, with treatment time lasting about 30 to 45 minutes. Dermal fillers can be administered in the lip area to add volume to the lips. They can also be used to fill in hollow cheeks, crow’s feet, forehead lines, and nasolabial folds. Essentially, any area that needs to be filled in or needs volume can be treated with dermal fillers, including scars.
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane are excellent for lip augmentation and treatment of nasolabial creases, marionette lines, and fine lines and wrinkles. Hydroxyapatite fillers like Radiesse provide a longer-lasting treatment for nasolabial creases but are inappropriate for the lips. Fat transfer is an excellent technique using a patient’s tissue that provides long-term results for lip augmentation, improvement in facial contour, and treatment of deep facial lines and creases.
Collagen is what gives volume, flexibility, and strength to healthy, young skin. As a part of the aging process, your natural collagen breaks down, diminishing facial volume and elasticity. This loss of elasticity and volume results in wrinkles, facial lines, and skin laxity – all of which rob your skin of its youthful, fresh appearance.
