Facelift and Necklift Scar Revision

Introduction

A facelift or neck lift can provide some wonderful benefits for those concerned with facial aging, but as anyone who has undergone surgery knows, there will be some resultant scarring. While many surgeries have incisions or scarring that can be hidden by conventional clothing, a facelift or neck lift is very visible, even if your plastic surgeon did a wonderful job. If you are in the Newport Beach or Beverly Hills area and are feeling self-conscious about the scarring from a previous facelift or neck lift procedure, Dr. Michael J. Sundine wants to help you feel confident in your appearance, which is why he offers his expertise in scar revision. To learn more about this procedure and how it could benefit you, please continue reading the information provided below.

What is Facelift & Neck Lift Scar Revision?

Face and neck lift procedures are common to restore a youthful appearance. There are probably just as many face and neck lift procedures as there are individual plastic surgeons, but at the core, the fundamental elements are repositioning the deep soft tissues and tightening of any lax skin.

Irrespective of the surgeon’s technique, patients may be left with undesirable results following the procedures. Scarring can be a significant problem after facelifts. Visible or poor-quality scarring can result from many different facets of the face and neck lift operation. Some visible scars result from poor operation planning, and the scars may need to be well hidden around the ear or hairline. In some patients, the scars may become widened, thick (hypertrophic scars), or rarely keloid scars. In other cases, the skin at the edges of the incisions may die, leaving wide and red scars may result.

What’s The First Step?

The first step in getting a facelift or neck lift scar revision is to schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Michael J. Sundine in either Newport Beach or Beverly Hills. When you come into your appointment, you will be able to express your concerns and aesthetic goals. Dr. Sundine will examine your face and neck and discuss your previous surgeries, your medical history, and lifestyle. It’s important to be open and honest during this meeting as it will help Dr. Sundine make the best surgical plan for you that will produce the best and safest results.

Once your plan has been made, our Patient Coordinator will be able to help you schedule your surgical date and provide you with instructions to follow before surgery.

What to Expect on the Day of Scar Revision Surgery

If you have had a face and neck lift with any of these untoward results, Dr. Sundine will recommend a comprehensive plan to help you obtain your optimal result. The procedures range from laser treatments, injections of medications (cortisone-type steroids and other medications) into the scars, scar modulation with creams and massage, and surgical scar revision. The exact treatments needed will depend on each patient’s individual situation. In those cases where there has been skin necrosis or poorly placed scars, the patient may require a revision of the facelift.

The V-beam (pulsed dye) laser is an excellent tool for treating the red and inflamed scars resulting from the facelift. It has been well-studied and scientifically proven to improve the quality of scarring.

Using the fractionated CO2 laser helps improve the contour and texture of the scar tissue. Combining the V-beam and the fractionated CO2 lasers can help obtain optimal scar results.

Recovery

After your procedure, you will be able to return home and recover comfortably. You can expect to experience some minor swelling, discoloration, or discomfort, which may take one to two weeks to subside. Healing will continue for several weeks, and the scar will begin to refine and fade as you heal. The final results of your scar revision surgery will be long-lasting. However, it may take several months for your final results to become apparent, and in some cases, it may take a year for the new scar to fully heal and fade.

Real Reviews

What I really like about Dr. Sundine is his vast experience and training. I also like the fact he did not try to sell me other procedures. He is also very down to earth and easy to talk to. I am very satisfied with the results and I highly recommend him.

After much research and multiple visits to other surgeons, I knew right away that Dr. Sundine was the perfect choice for me. I felt completely confident in his ability from the first visit to the last. I have been singing his praises to all of my friends and will recommend him to anyone searching for a plastic surgeon. Thanks, Dr. Sundine

Dr. Sundine is an excellent plastic surgeon! I have been using his services for almost 5 years. If you want to look years younger and fully refreshed I highly recommend that you use his services. Patients walk out looking naturally gorgeous, not overdone like some of the women in Orange County!

Dr. Sundine is the best plastic surgeon. Dr. Sundine’s excellent skills and knowledge has made my surgery turn out so well. But more importantly, it made me feel better about myself. Again, thank you Dr. Sundine for all you have done for me. You are the best surgeon!

I gave Dr. Sundine the highest possible review in each category because he truly deserved the highest reviews on every level. I am a very well recognized lawyer on the West Coast. My firm has spent millions of dollars on television advertising in which I appear. I could not afford to have a bad facelift or even for people to notice I had a facelift at all. I interviewed many physicians including some of the “celebrity” physicians. Ultimately, I chose Dr. Sundine.
