Who Is a Candidate for Cleft Lip Revision Surgery?
Dr. Sundine will review your medical history and closely examine the appearance of your lip to determine if you are a good candidate for cleft lip revision surgery. The lip repair may be under-rotated and Cupid’s bow may be uneven. Some patients have a whistling deformity or a poor quality of scarring that they would like improved. There may also be an imbalance between the size of the upper lip and the lower lip.
While determining your candidacy, Dr. Sundine will also talk to you about your aesthetic concerns and what can be done to give you the lips that you want.
The Cleft Lip Revision Procedure in Newport Beach
The approach to revision of the cleft lip is going to be dependent on the problem identified in the lip. The procedure may be as simple as a revision of the scars from the repair. More complex deformities may require the lip to be taken apart and then reassembled. Occasionally, the lip may need to be augmented to achieve balance with the other lip. The exact procedure will be reviewed carefully based on your examination and specific needs.
Recovering From Cleft Lip Revision
Recovering from cleft lip revision will not be very different from your previous experience. After surgery, your face will feel sore and you will have some surgical dressings. Dr. Sundine will provide you with aftercare instructions, as well as medicine to keep you comfortable during the first 10 days. You will be able to return to your daily activities within one to two weeks, during which time you will see Dr. Sundine on a regular basis. As with your primary procedure, the results of this surgery will become evident over time.
