Revision Rhinoplasty Newport Beach

Are you unhappy with the results of your cosmetic nose surgery? This happens to about 15 percent of all nose surgery patients. Nose surgery can deliver great results, but in some cases they are not achieved through the initial procedure. Many patients who undergo nose reshaping surgery decide to undergo a second procedure to further enhance the shape, size or width of the nose. Revision rhinoplasty can also be performed to help patients who are experiencing difficulty breathing as a result of the initial procedure.
Dr. Michael Sundine is a respected Newport Beach revision rhinoplasty surgeon who can help you address any aesthetic concerns resulting from primary rhinoplasty.

Is Secondary Rhinoplasty Safe?

Secondary nose surgery, also called revision rhinoplasty, is safe only after the final results of primary rhinoplasty are apparent. This means a revision procedure should not be performed within the first 12 to 18 months after initial surgery. Dr. Sundine will carefully examine your nose and ask you about your first surgery. He will also ask you about your goals and determine if the results you are looking for can be achieved.

The Secondary Rhinoplasty Surgery in Newport Beach

Revision rhinoplasty surgery is always performed using the open rhinoplasty approach. To perform this procedure, Dr. Sundine makes small incisions along the vertical strip of skin separating the nostrils. The skin and soft tissues are then folded back to expose the underlying cartilage and bone for easier reshaping.

Revision rhinoplasty surgery is performed under general anesthesia at a local hospital or accredited outpatient surgical facility. You will be able to go home the same day.

Recovering from Revision Rhinoplasty Surgery

Your recovery will greatly depend on the degree of correction that was performed. However, in most cases, recovering from this procedure is not much different than recovering from the previous surgery. Your nose will be bandaged up and a splint will be placed for a few days. You will be given medicine and painkillers to keep you comfortable. Swelling and bruising are common, but subside gradually. The results may not be visible for a few months, but you will be able to return to work and other daily activities within a couple of weeks. Dr. Sundine will monitor your progress for as long as necessary.
